Essentially, this means you’ll need to make sure you can get your visitors where they need to go in three clicks or less. This makes the entire user experience more enjoyable, and it suits today’s generation of internet users who expect instant gratification.

Quality vs. Quantity

When it comes to creating a website that your users will appreciate, it’s important to balance quality and quantity very, very carefully. In fact, you shouldn’t even think about it as one versus the other; you should think about them as a team working in harmony to provide the user with an amazing, well-balanced experience. If your visitor starts to feel “funneled”, he or she will also begin to feel frustrated.

How to Reduce Your Clicks

Reducing clicks can be a bit tricky, especially when you have a site that is optimized for desktops, smartphones, and tablets. Fortunately, there are a few different techniques you can use to simplify the overall user experience.

  • Eliminate Drop Downs Where Possible – Although drop-down menus are great, and they can certainly offer users a “hub” of sorts that helps them choose the right road, they tend to get frustrating on mobile devices like smartphones and tablets.
  • Keep Links Simple – It’s always a great idea to link to other relevant pages on your website, but it’s important to keep this simple and to the point. Too many links can confuse your visitors and cause them to second-guess themselves.
  • Remove Unnecessary Pages – Finally, it’s also beneficial to go in and remove any pages that just aren’t benefitting your site in any way. Creating static webpages just for keyword optimization doesn’t truly benefit anyone, and it often does nothing but increase the number of times a user has to click to find what he or she needs.
